On 11th November 2009 Uckfield Chess Club hosted a match in the 4th Division of the Mid Sussex Chess League, between its own 2nd team and the 5th team from Brighton & Hove Chess Club. Brighton & Hove's 5th team was: (1) Robert "Bob" Davies (2) Charles "MBE" Holcombe (3) Jamie Ritter (4) John Smuts (5) Duncan Roy Brighton & Hove won the match by 4 points to 1, Charles Holcombe having dropped the point.
